The Civil Engineering Corporate department of Munich Re F&C (Facultative & Corporate) provides bespoke insurance solutions to the global civil engineering and selected industrial sectors. Our department supports owner/operators, construction companies and their brokers worldwide and is responsible for project (CAR/EAR) as well as operational (CECR/IDI) business.
To complement our dynamic team, we are looking for a dedicated Engineering Underwriter with a background in civil engineering. Your field of activities will be varied: the role encompasses not only underwriting, but also all client management, risk engineering and business development activities.

YOUR JOB
- Acquire, assess and write profitable corporate civil engineering business with a focus on project works
- Complete risk assessment, pricing, wording analysis and accumulation management
- Maintain and strengthen client relationships, develop new engineering business with global insureds and brokers around the world
- Negotiate with insureds and brokers to achieve successful outcomes in line with our underwriting strategy
- Contribute to the development of corporate underwriting principles
- Carry out on-site risk inspections and evaluations as well as recommend loss prevention measures
- Assist in the handling of major claims
- Keep up with the latest industry developments and trends
- Prepare and deliver presentations and seminars to colleagues and clients
YOUR PROFILE
- Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5 years’ industry experience.
- Sound knowledge of engineering principles and practices, ideally with affiliations to professional engineering bodies.
- Specialisation (e.g. construction management, infrastructure, transport), international and/or major project experience an advantage
- Underwriting experience or knowledge of insurance in the fields of CAR, EAR, CECR and IDI.
- Confident and outgoing manner, negotiation skills and strong customer focus
- Ability to work independently as well as to manage and prioritise multiple tasks simultaneously
- Strong numeracy and analytical skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and effectively within an international group dynamic
- Business level English required, German and other language skills of advantage
- Willingness to travel
