Research Associate (Postdoc) Position in B Cell Immunology

Full- or part-time | temporary (24 month) | Institut für Experimentelle Hämatologie
The research group of Prof. Marc Schmidt-Supprian at the Institute of Experimental Hematology at the Technical University Munich is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate (Postdoctoral fellow) or PhD student to join our team starting from now onwards. This position is funded for three years and focuses on cutting-edge research in the field of B cell immunology, specifically on Marginal Zone (MZ) B cells.
Project Overview:
The successful candidate will contribute to an NIH-funded project aimed at understanding the development and maintenance of Marginal Zone B cells, mostly in the mouse. The primary objectives include:

  • Mapping the developmental trajectories of MZ B cells by various methods, including single cell sequencing
  • Investigating the mechanisms underlying their generation and maintenance by genetic loss and gain of function experiments
  • Identifying the determinants that influence their pool size and clonal repertoire during B cell development and immune responses.

The role involves conducting wet lab experiments to generate data essential for modeling the kinetics of MZ B cells. This is a collaborative project with renowned international experts, including Dr. Dr. Sanket Rane (Columbia University, NY) specializing in mathematical modeling, Prof. Benedict Seddon (University College London) focusing on lymphocyte development and homeostasis in bone marrow chimeras, and Dr. Ursula Zimber-Strobl (Helmholtz-Zentrum München) working on Marginal Zone B cell development. Regular interactions with these collaborators will occur through monthly videoconferences, annual in-person meetings, and lab exchanges.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform experiments to gather data on MZ B cell development and maintenance.
  • Collaborate closely with project partners to integrate experimental data with mathematical models.
  • Contribute to the preparation and analysis of data for publication and presentations.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to high-impact research in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. If you are passionate about B cell immunology and eager to work on a dynamic project, we encourage you to apply.

Your profile

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field (for postdoctoral fellow).
  • Strong background in B cell biology.
  • Hands-on experience with transgenic mouse models, including breeding and colony management.
  • Proficiency in preparing and processing lymphoid organs from mice.
  • Expertise in Flow Cytometry, particularly in multi-color FACS staining and cell population analysis.
  • Experience/Interest in single cell RNA sequencing experiments.
  • Excellent proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

We offer you:

  • EGYM well pass, corporate benefits and discounts (e.g. Käfer), cafeteria, sports and cultural offers, company bike
  • Free use of the library through a branch of the Munich City Library located in the building
  • Working in the heart of Munich at Max-Weber-Platz with very good accessibility by public transport such as the subway, S-Bahn or tram
  • Company pension plan through the Federal and State Pension Institute (VBL)
  • Self-realization through a varied and technically demanding job with interdisciplinary cooperation between various departments of the MRI

We look forward to your application!
